Navigating Disruptions & Transitions in the Mediterranean: Policies for Resilient, Innovative & Inclusive Economies
FEMISE is pleased to launch its Call for Papers for the 2026 Annual Conference. Researchers working on socioeconomic issues in the Euro-Mediterranean region are invited to submit research concept notes addressing key challenges and transformations shaping the region.

Following the selection of concept notes, authors will be invited to submit full papers, which will undergo a review process. Selected authors will present their work at the FEMISE Annual Conference in October 2026 (date and location to be confirmed).

Strategic Context
The Euro-Mediterranean region is undergoing profound transformations driven by:
- Geopolitical tensions and trade fragmentation
- Climate change and energy transitions
- Rapid digital and technological shifts
- Persistent socioeconomic challenges (inequality, unemployment, informality)
These dynamics are no longer temporary disruptions but structural forces reshaping economies, labour markets, and policy frameworks. This Call for Papers invites contributions that explore how the region can:
- Build resilience
- Foster innovation
- Promote inclusive and sustainable development
Conference Theme & Research Topics
Submissions should address the main theme and fall under one (or more) of the following topics:
Topic 1: Reconfiguration of International Trade and Globalisation
Opportunities for the Euro-Mediterranean Region
Topic 2: Sustainability Transitions in Times of Disruption
Economic Resilience, Risk, and Systemic Transformation
Topic 3: Digital Transformation and Innovation
Drivers for Mediterranean Competitiveness
Topic 4: Inclusive and Sustainable Development
Reducing Socioeconomic Vulnerabilities and Strengthening Social Resilience

Eligibility & Scope
- Open to researchers working on Euro-Mediterranean socioeconomic issues
- Submissions can focus on:
- The entire region or specific countries
- Comparative and collaborative research (especially North–South partnerships) is encouraged
- Early-career researchers and recent PhDs are strongly encouraged to apply
- Papers must provide:
- Clear value added
- Evidence-based analysis
- Operational policy recommendations
Submission Process
Applicants must submit the following by 20 May 2026:
1. Concept Note (Max. 7 pages)
Including:
- Title and selected topic
- Objective of the paper
- Knowledge gap and contribution
- Methodology
- Expected results and policy implications
- Author(s) details (name, affiliation, contact)
2. CV(s)
Including list of publications (if applicable)
