The FEMISE Annual Conference 2026, titled “Navigating Disruptions & Transitions in the Mediterranean: Policies for Resilient, Innovative & Inclusive Economies,” will take place in Tarragona, Spain from 7 to 9 October 2026. Bringing together researchers, policymakers, international organisations, private sector actors and civil society stakeholders, the conference aims to examine the profound economic and social transformations shaping the Euro-Mediterranean region. In a context marked by climate change, geopolitical shifts, technological disruption and evolving global value chains, the event will foster dialogue between research and policymaking and explore evidence-based policy responses that can strengthen resilience, sustainability, innovation and inclusion across the Mediterranean.
The conference is structured around four key themes: trade, value chains and regional economic integration; sustainability transitions and green transformation; digital transformation and innovation; and skills, jobs and inclusive development. Together, these themes address a central question: how can Mediterranean economies navigate disruption while building more resilient, innovative and inclusive development models.
Over three days, the programme will feature high-level plenary sessions, thematic research sessions and networking opportunities. The opening day will include welcoming remarks, institutional interventions and an opening plenary on “The Mediterranean at a Turning Point: Resilience, Transformation and Regional Cooperation,” followed by networking activities. The second day will focus on trade, sustainability and digital transformation through dedicated plenaries and thematic sessions, while the final day will address innovation, employment transitions and inclusive labour markets, concluding with a closing session synthesising key policy takeaways and future directions for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
