Celebrating 20 years of advancing inclusive policy and cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region
In 2025, FEMISE marks two decades of dialogue, research, and partnership dedicated to shaping inclusive, evidence-based policy in the Euro-Mediterranean region. What began as a vision in 1997 — born from a chance encounter between two passionate Mediterranean thinkers — has grown into a dynamic network of 100 member institutions from across Europe and the South Mediterranean. Built within the spirit of the Barcelona Process, FEMISE has evolved into a trusted space for collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. Over the past 20 years, FEMISE has supported over 250 research projects, engaged more than 500 researchers, and published hundreds of policy outputs that influence reform across borders. This anniversary is more than a celebration — it’s a moment to honour the people, ideas, and shared purpose that have carried FEMISE forward. As we reflect on our journey, we also look to the future with renewed commitment to climate action, inclusion, entrepreneurship, and regional cooperation.

As we reflect on 20 years of impact, we also reaffirm our commitment to the future. FEMISE will continue to evolve as a platform for meaningful exchange and policy innovation across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Our next chapter will focus on forging new partnerships with institutions that share our values, and amplifying the voices of youth, civil society, and underrepresented groups. We will strengthen our research excellence while turning our attention to emerging priorities — from climate adaptation to inclusive digital transitions.
Above all, we will deepen our engagement with policymakers by delivering research that is not only rigorous, but actionable, timely, and rooted in the realities of the region.
