The FEMISE Network is, since June 2005, a non-profit corporation chartered under the French Law of 1 July 1901. This association is a network of national institutes for political economy, of research organizations and similar independent, non-profit organizations representative of both sides of the Mediterranean and has for its object: " (i) to conduct policy research and make recommendations with respect to economic relations between Europe and their Mediterranean partners; (ii) to publish and disseminate this research for the benefit of public and private, national and multilateral institutions, (iii) to work for the broadest possible dissemination by the most appropriate means". The Association FEMISE may otherwise engage in any lawful activity pursuant to the advancement of its objectives.
The registered office of is at Marseilles, within Institut de la Mediterranee office. ERF assumes the Presidency of the Association, the Institut de la Mediterranee assumes the function of Treasurer.
Association membership is comprised of Founding Members (Membres present at the creation), Active members (Members entering the Network from now) and Observers (Members that have not formally entered the association but are interested in the network activity - they shall not be entitled to vote).
The governing bodies of the association are the General Assembly, the Board of Directors (called Steering Committee), the Executive Committee and some specialised committees.
The General Assembly is composed of the founding and active members. Each member shall have one vote.
The Steering Committee is composed of 20 members, elected by the General Assembly, 10 representing the 10 Mediterranean Partners and 10 representing 10 countrie for European Union. One of its main task is to review and appove or reject candidatures of new institutions for Femise membership. Decisions of the Board shall be considered final and without recourse.
The Executive Committee is composed the Presidency (ERF) and the Treasurer (Institut de la Mediterranee). It is in charge of the coordination of the network and management of the association.
